A Thousand Blows Season 2

Led by VFX Supervisor Richard Frazer, BlueBolt delivered 107 VFX shots to help recreate the thrilling and perilous world of the 1880s London boxing scene for season two of Disney Original series A Thousand Blows created by Steven Knight.

Season two sees where Hezekiah Moscow (Malachi Kirby), Sugar Goodson (Stephen Graham) and Mary Carr (Erin Doherty) are one year after the dramatic conclusion of season one!

As the main VFX studio on the project, our team created digital environment work for key London story locations from set extensions to a full CG dockside environment - extending the purpose built backlot at Mortlake and existing period warehouse buildings onto and down the existing Thames riverside, transforming it into the bustling Wapping Docks of East London. The work also included enhancement of the brutal bare-knuckle boxing fights, as well as a view of New York, featuring a CG Brooklyn Bridge, CG water and barges, and a matte-painted city skyline.

BlueBolt also delivered 125 shots for the first season of A Thousand Blows in 2024. With both series one and two - a total of twelve episodes - shot back to back and the VFX created in the same timescale, Richard and the BlueBolt team worked simultaneously across episodes that were preparing to shoot as well as delivering final VFX on others - collaborating with six directors alongside showrunner Tom Miller to support continuity and ensure the look of key locations and environments were consistent.
