PIPELINE – Pipeline Developer (R&D tools)

Pipeline TD (R&D tools) – contract, London, start date: October 2017

Here at BlueBolt VFX, we are currently looking for a Pipeline TD to join our expanding Pipeline / Tools team. 

This exciting multifaceted role sitting in the Pipeline team, will be working on both support for the artists
and development of Tools within the team.

This role will be calling on Python development skills and use of 3d/2d tools.

You will be in the thick of all the action. Working on amazing films, as well as award winning TV Shows.
This role will give you the opportunity to work with some talented people, develop and gain skills to
further your career in this industry.

Skills needed for the role:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in development.
  • Strong Python, Linux/Unix shell, Data Pipelines.
  • Ideal candidate has experience with pipelines for Foundry tools such as Nuke, Mari and Hiero.
  • General technical problem-solving and troubleshooting ability.

This role will require you to:

  • Work closely with department heads and the production team.
  • Develop and maintain BlueBolt’s pipelines & tools using SCRUM.
  • Provide day-to- day support to creative and production teams.
  • Report to a Head of Pipeline.

Desirable skills but not needed for the role:

  • Render Management software such as Deadline, Tractor, Grid Engine.
  • Understanding of Colour workflow in VFX.
  • TD / Render Engineer experience with renderers such as Arnold.
  • C++, Maya Mel scripting.
  • Experience in using 2d/3d applications in a production environment.
  • Experience in working in a SCRUM based development environment.
  • Experience in Maya/Nuke API development and Shotgun Toolkit.

PIPELINE – Head of Pipeline

Head of Pipeline – London

Here at BlueBolt VFX, we are currently looking for a Head of Pipeline to join our expanding Pipeline /
Tools team.

This exciting multifaceted role sitting in the Pipeline team and will be leading the Pipe TD’s.
Reporting into the Directors and CTO.

You will be in the thick of all the action. Working on amazing films, as well as award winning TV
Shows. This role will give you the opportunity to work with some talented people, develop and gain
skills to further your career in this industry.

Skills needed for the role:

  • You will have a minimum of 2 years’ Hands on experience managing a Pipeline team using Agile
    Scrum and a solid track record of having pipeline development experience in VFX.
  • Experience designing and implementing 2d & 3d pipelines from scratch or progressing existing
    pipelines at SME and large facilities
  • This role requires you to have hands on tool development & maintenance across VFX disciplines
    working with standard industry packages
  • Strong understanding of asset management, production workflows and colour pipeline.
  • Excellent on the spot technical problem-solving as well as foresight to potential issues
  • Approachable with strong communication skills both written and in person.

This role will require you to:

  • Have a thirst to drive innovation in the team, staying abreast of technical developments
  • Provide strong team leadership to implement creative software strategies and solutions to increase
    efficiency and utilization
  • Manage the Pipeline teams day-to- day work, the development schedule and the teams personal
    development with the HR Manager
  • Effectively balance the teams fire-fighting agility with tools development and R&D
  • Lead projects & oversee team’s projects as well a run own projects
  • Oversee day-to- day support to creative and production teams
  • Maintain relationships with external organisations to grow & strengthen BlueBolt’s pipeline
  • Work closely with the Systems team, department heads and the production teams
  • Report to the Directors & CTO

Desirable but not needed for the role:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in computing/graphics related programming
  • Experience using 2d/3d applications in a production environment
  • Experience in working in a SCRUM based development environment
  • Active member of the open source community

2D Sequence Lead

2D Sequence Lead, London, start date: Imminent

Skills/experience:

  • Significant experience as a Senior Compositor in a VFX facility with known film credits
  • Must have a very strong knowledge of Nuke
  • Competent in leading the technical and creative efforts of a team of artists towards completion across a sequence of shots
  • Experience designing the approach to effective shot execution to solve compositing challenges
  • Accomplished at providing creative and technical direction in response to a brief from the VFX Supervisor on their sequence, and ensuring that work produced by artists on the sequence is compliant with that direction
  • Experienced in project management, balancing quality with the relevant time constraints.

This role will require you to:

  • Report to the work directly under the VFX Supervisor and deputise in their absence
  • Have an exception eye and be the master of tech checksHave an exception eye and be the master of tech checks
  • Work with and direct all levels 2D artists
  • Be organized with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Flag potential issues to production staff before they become problems
  • Provide ongoing performance feedback and evaluate team members

2D – Senior Compositors

Senior Compositor, London, start date: Imminent

You will be in the thick of all the action, working on amazing films as well as award winning TV Shows.
This role will give you the opportunity to work with some talented people, develop and gain skills to
further your career in this industry.

Skills/experience:

  • Significant experience in a VFX facility with known film credits.
  • Must have a very strong knowledge of Nuke.
  • Experience designing the approach to effective shot execution to solve compositing challenges.
  • Must be able to integrate separate live-action and computer-generated elements
  • on-set experience not essential but useful.

This role will require you to:

  • Report to the Head of 2D / VFX Supervisors.
  • Be team orientated, motivated and able to work a brief.
  • Work with and direct junior and mid level artists.
  • Be a good communicator and able to troubleshoot logically.

PRODUCTION – VFX Production Coordinator

VFX Production Coordinator – London 

Skills/experience:

  • A solid track record of coordinating for 1-2 years within a recognised VFX facility.
  • A general understanding of VFX production pipelines and post production in general.
  • Good people skills and a proven ability to work in a team environment.
  • Experience with Shotgun and Microsoft Excel is a bonus. Skills in Filemaker Pro and Google Apps would be advantageous.
  • An ability to handle multiple tasks under varying degrees of pressure.

This role will require you to:

  • Support the VFX Producers, Line Producers, Editorial and other Coordinators in implementing project plans and meeting deadlines.
  • Run daily rounds on the floor with the artists alongside the VFX Producer.
  • Take notes and manage the Shotgun database in dailies sessions.
  • Organise reference materials and track incoming and outgoing deliveries to and from clients.
  • On occasion liaise with the client production team.
  • Have a good sense of humour – always essential!
